This recipe is perfect for busy weeknights, offering a restaurant-quality meal in the comfort of your home. With its simple preparation and bold flavors, it pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or noodles, making it a family favorite that everyone will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • ½ cup (75g) onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • ½ cup (120ml) beef broth
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Marinate the Beef:
In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce and cornstarch. Toss to coat evenly and let it marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef:
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef in a single layer and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables:
In the same pan, heat the remaining oil. Add the bell peppers and onion, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender. Stir in the garlic and ginger, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Prepare the Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix the beef broth, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, and sesame oil (if using).
  5. Combine and Simmer:
Return the beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the sauce over the mixture and stir well. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables evenly.
  6. Serve:
Remove from heat and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Beef Options: For extra tenderness, use flank steak or sirloin and slice thinly against the grain.
  • Vegetables: Add mushrooms, snap peas, or broccoli for more variety.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use tamari or gluten-free soy sauce.
  • Make-Ahead: Prep the vegetables and sauce in advance for a quick meal assembly.
