  • 0.5 lb Ground pork
  • 0.5 cup Bread crumbs Plain
  • 0.25 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg Lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp Allspice
  • 1 small Onion Finely chopped

Gravy

  • 2 tbsp Flour All-purpose
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine all meatball ingredients. Mix gently until just combined.
  • Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  • In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Gradually whisk in the beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, or until slightly thickened.
  • Stir in the heavy cream, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through and the gravy has thickened.
  • Serve the Swedish meatballs over egg noodles or mashed potatoes. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of beef and veal. Serve with lingonberry jam for a traditional Swedish experience.
