Homemade Pizza Dough

This recipe shows you how to make delicious homemade pizza dough from scratch. It's easy, requires minimal ingredients, and yields a perfectly chewy crust.

  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Add a little more flour if needed.
  • Lightly oil a large bowl. Place the dough in the bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Punch down the dough and divide it in half.
  • Roll out each half of the dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to baking sheets.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

For best results, use a kitchen scale to measure the ingredients. You can also add your favorite pizza toppings after baking.
