breadsticks recipe

A simple recipe for delicious, homemade breadsticks.

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2.25 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add olive oil, flour, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired breadstick shapes.
  • Place breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
