Prep : 10 Total : 25 minutes

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup rolled oats
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat evenly, then transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  • In another bowl, mix together the flour, brown sugar, oats, and salt. Add the cold butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
  • Allow the crumble to cool for 10–15 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or custard.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of tart and sweet apples. The crumble can be made ahead and stored unbaked in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before baking.
