Instructions
Preparation Steps
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper; cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
Add ground turkey; cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.
Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, and black pepper.
Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
Serve warm mixture on toasted hamburger buns, topped with lettuce, pickles, or cheese if desired.
Notes
For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or diced jalapeño with the onions and peppers.
