Stovetop Mac and Cheese

A quick and creamy stovetop mac and cheese that's perfect for a comforting dinner.

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni uncooked
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk whole or 2%
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 0.5 tsp salt to taste
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper to taste

Preparation Steps

  • Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, then drain.
  • In a separate pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Add the cheese, salt, and pepper, and stir until the cheese is melted.
  • Add the cooked macaroni to the sauce and stir until well combined.

Notes

For a little kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the cheese sauce.
