Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

This slow cooker pulled pork recipe is incredibly easy and results in tender, flavorful shredded pork perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or any meal.

  • 3 lb Pork shoulder (Boston butt)
  • 1 cup Apple cider
  • 0.5 cup BBQ sauce Your favorite kind
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Salt

Preparation Steps

  • Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder.
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder.
  • Place the seasoned pork shoulder in your slow cooker.
  • Pour the apple cider and BBQ sauce over the pork.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  • Remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board or in a large bowl. Shred the pork using two forks.
  • Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the cooking liquid. Let it heat through for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Serve the pulled pork on buns, in tacos, or as desired.

Notes

For an extra smoky flavor, you can add a teaspoon of liquid smoke to the slow cooker. You can also add your favorite vegetables like onions or bell peppers during the last hour of cooking.
