Shepherd's Pie Recipe

A classic comfort food, this Shepherd's Pie recipe features a flavorful ground beef and vegetable filling topped with creamy mashed potatoes.

  • 1.5 lb Ground beef
  • 1 large Onion, chopped
  • 2 cups Carrots, chopped
  • 2 cups Peas
  • 0.5 cup Beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 2 lbs Russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 2 tbsp Butter

Preparation Steps

  • Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  • Add the onion, carrots, and peas to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in the beef broth and tomato paste. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  • While the meat simmers, boil the potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with milk and butter.
  • Pour the meat mixture into a baking dish. Top with the mashed potatoes.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
