- Grease an 8x8 inch pan and set aside.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and evaporated milk. Stir constantly over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.

- Remove from heat. Stir in chocolate chips until melted and smooth.
- Stir in vanilla extract and nuts (if using).
