Meatball Sub Grilled Cheese Casserole

This casserole combines the comfort of grilled cheese with the heartiness of a meatball sub.

  • 1 lb ground beef preferably 80% lean
  • 1 cup bread crumbs Italian style
  • 2 cups marinara sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 8 slices Italian bread thick cut
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions
 

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, bread crumbs, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • Form mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  • In a pan over medium heat, brown the meatballs on all sides.
  • Place the meatballs in a baking dish and cover with marinara sauce.
  • Top with mozzarella cheese and arrange bread slices on top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

For a crispy top, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes.
