Mac and Cheese with Bacon

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni uncooked
  • 6 slices bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk whole
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground

Preparation Steps

  • Cook the macaroni according to package instructions; drain.
  • In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour until smooth.
  • Gradually whisk in milk, and bring to a boil. Cook and stir until thickened.
  • Stir in cheese, salt, and pepper until cheese is melted. Add macaroni and bacon, and stir to coat.

Notes

For a crispy topping, sprinkle breadcrumbs and additional cheese on top and broil for a few minutes.
