Preparation Steps
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare cake mix according to package instructions and bake. Let cool completely, then cube.
In a large skillet, cook diced apples with cinnamon over medium heat until softened, about 10-15 minutes. Let cool slightly.
In a trifle dish, layer half of the cake cubes, half of the apples, and drizzle with half of the caramel sauce. Top with half of the whipped topping.
Repeat layers: remaining cake, apples, caramel sauce, and whipped topping.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a salted caramel sauce. You can also add chopped pecans or walnuts between the layers for added texture.
