- 1 tsp black pepper divided
- 4 slices American cheese
- 4 hamburger buns

- Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly coat a baking dish with nonstick spray.
- Shape the ground beef into four even patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Place the patties in the prepared baking dish and bake uncovered for about 20 minutes, until the centers reach 160°F.
- Top each patty with a slice of cheese and return to the oven for about 1 minute, until melted.
- Place each cheeseburger on a bun bottom, wrap individually in foil, and warm for 2 to 3 minutes. Add toppings and serve.
