creamed corn

A classic side dish, creamed corn is sweet, rich, and comforting.

  • 6 cups corn kernels, fresh or frozen
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation Steps

  • Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add corn kernels, heavy cream, sugar, salt, and pepper to the saucepan.
  • Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the corn is tender and the sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve hot.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg. If using frozen corn, thaw it slightly before cooking.
