Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

A timeless recipe for soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies with a golden edge and rich, buttery flavor.

  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in vanilla extract, egg, and egg yolk until well combined.
  • Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just incorporated.
  • Fold in chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and centers are set.
  • Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
