Classic Chocolate Cake

A moist and delicious classic chocolate cake recipe that's perfect for any occasion.

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract.

  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.

  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting once completely cooled. This cake pairs wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
