  • 1.5 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Buttermilk room temperature
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 2 large Eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon White Vinegar

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese softened
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted Butter softened
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk

Cake Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, combine buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add to dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Stir in vinegar. Batter will be thin.
  • Pour batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Instructions

  • In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until smooth.
  • Stir in vanilla extract and milk until desired consistency is reached.
  • Frost cooled cake layers.
