  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes, undrained 28 ounce
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed 15 ounce
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed 15 ounce
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation Steps

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes (undrained), kidney beans, black beans, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. Serve hot.

Notes

Optional toppings include shredded cheese, sour cream, and chopped fresh cilantro.
