Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

A savory and elegant appetizer featuring tender asparagus spears wrapped in crispy bacon, perfect for entertaining or a special side dish.

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or brown sugar optional, for glaze

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
  • Wash and trim the tough ends from the asparagus spears. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  • If using, toss asparagus with olive oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl until lightly coated.
  • Cut each bacon slice in half crosswise. Wrap each half-slice around 3–4 asparagus spears, starting at the bottom and spiraling toward the tip. Secure with a toothpick if needed.
  • Arrange the bacon-wrapped asparagus bundles on the prepared baking sheet, seam side down, leaving space between each.
  • Optional: Brush lightly with maple syrup or sprinkle with brown sugar for a sweet glaze.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 18–22 minutes, or until bacon is crispy and asparagus is tender.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for 2–3 minutes before serving. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, choose thin-cut bacon so it crisps up nicely without overcooking the asparagus. This dish pairs wonderfully with a light salad or as part of a charcuterie board.
